Clinical Hypnotherapy Approaches & Application, formally known as Transpersonal Hypnotherapy, is a foundation course that provides an understanding of the essence of the clinical hypnotherapy approach, the history of hypnosis, the language of hypnosis, and the application of hypnosis to psychotherapy. The course covers several hypnotic inductions, provides instruction on how to monitor trance states, utilize suggestibility tests, and both learn and teach self-hypnosis. This course also offers an introduction to Ericksonian, NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), and Naturalistic approaches to hypnotherapy. This course teaches the student to master the following protocols: Progressive Muscled Relaxation, Journey to a Safe Place, Journey for Resources, Two-Way Com (The Golden Protocol), Separation of Interjected Parents, Abreaction/Reframing, Retrieval of Essential Aspects of the Self, Problem State/Desired State, Cutting Energetic Ties, Healing Childhood Abuse/Trauma, Working with the Shadow, NLP Introduction, Circle Integration and Timeline. Self-hypnosis, trance logic, safely entering and bringing a client out of trance states and many other therapeutic lectures are also built into this rich course.
This foundation course offers the opportunity to learn and practice journey work in a supportive environment, where each individual has the opportunity to be a student-client and a student-therapist. Feedback to student-therapists from student-clients and the teaching staff offers each student the opportunity to enhance their therapeutic skills, languaging and effectiveness working with clients in the hypnotic state.
Objectives:
- To understand the Clinical perspective and its use in hypnotherapy.
- To learn how to orient a client to hypnosis.
- To recognize the physical signs of the hypnotic state and the level of the hypnotic trance state.
- To learn both direct and permissive language scripts.
- To learn how to bring a client out of the hypnotic state.
- To learn several inductions and deepening techniques.
- To learn problem-solving strategies when working with clients, who have trust and control issues, who may be unable to receive images or have difficulty with specific emotions.
- To learn to pace and lead.
- To make and utilize a self-hypnosis tape.
- Learn to empower the client and utilize the client's wisdom in creating post-hypnotic suggestions.
- To learn how to guide clients through multiple hypnotherapeutic journeys.
- To discover the power of using naturalistic trance states to support clients in tapping into their own healing resources and truth.
- To learn to work with submodalities.
- To learn several NLP techniques and protocols, including breaking anchors, swishing, timeline, and core fixations.
- To develop skill using the power of posthypnotics and successful languaging.
- To begin to utilize story (metaphor) as part of the healing process.
- To utilize this experience for personal growth.
Primary Competencies: Successful completion is based on class participation, completion of practice sessions and feedback forms, a self-hypnosis tape and report, three on-line quizzes (open notes) a final take-home exam and an in class Practical Final of your work as a student therapist and self analysis of this session. The take-home exam will occur toward the latter part of the semester and will include a basic understanding of the fundamentals of the hypnotic state and the student's ability to assess strategies, when to use which protocol and contraindications for certain journeys.
The Hypnotherapy One course consists of hands-on experiential training where students either meet 1 time per month for a full weekend (Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm) for 4 months or for 3 hours once per week for 16 weeks. Each training month (1 weekend or 4 weekly classes), three to five protocols and/or inductions are focused on through didactic training, live demonstration of each protocol, supervised practice of each protocol where there are Certified Hypnotherapists supervising our student practice dyads. Full clinical debriefing sessions follow each lecture, demonstration and practice session.
Student Attendance Policy: Punctuality and regular attendance are essential to do well in this course as your competency in hypnotherapy depends on practicing the basic concepts, taking the journeys yourself and guiding student-clients through their journeys.
Teaching Strategies: This course is taught utilizing a variety of techniques including lecture for specific didactic information, discussion, demonstration of how to guide a client through each of the protocols plus a videotape of these demonstrations, student practice sessions with feedback from the student-client, teaching assistant and instructor, journeys for your own personal growth, group processing as needed, and a videotape for you to see both your strengths and challenges.
Textbooks: All students are required to purchase the books labeled " required texts " for this course. A list of recommended texts are also listed, though are not required. On-line Labs: Each month of training (1 weekend or 4 classes) consists of 12 to 15 "in-class" training hours and an additional 5 to 7 "on-line" training hours through the Healthy Hypnotherapy Institute's on-line Learning Labs . The on-line component offers continuing support to the student between the live trainings, focusing on homework assignments, reading assignments from the required reading lists and the HHI Text . Interactive quizzes further prepare the student for the CHCC Certification Examination. The Learning Labs also offer the students a way to easily stay connected to one another between training weekends and to interact with the instructors and assistants at any time via the secure message boards, live chat rooms or e-mail.
Prerequisites: Clinical Hypnotherapy Seminar: An Introduction to Clinical Hypnotherapy
Four hypnotherapy Courses are taken and an oral and written certification exam are successfully completed to satisfy the required 200 hours which certifies the student with the designation Certified Hypnotherapist (CHT). Both the oral and written exams are administered by Healthy Hypnotherapy Institute's CHCC Certified Administrators and Examiners. Students are fully prepared for these examinations throughout their 200 hours of training. The four required courses may be completed at whatever pace the student is comfortable pursuing. Most individuals complete the training between 10 and 12 months for the 200 hour certification level, including the examinations.

(Required as the first course; Students enrolling into the Clinical Hypnotherapy Program must take both days: Saturday and Sunday. This course is also approved for CE Credits for MFTs and LCSWs.)

- Ericksonian Hypnotherapy (60 Hours - 3 weekends)

Advanced Seminars (Advanced Training for the 300 Hour Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist Tract)
- Choose from any of the advanced course to attain an additional 100 hours of classroom training towards the Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist (CCH) Certification.
- Choose from any of our advanced workshops and seminars for specialization in a particular area of hypnotherapy training. These hours can also count towards fulfillment of your additional 100 CHCC hours.
